Student societies nurture moral values: PU VC

LAHORE: (Monday, April 20, 2026): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali emphasized that character-building societies are essential for students because they nurture moral values among students alongside academic learning. He was addressing an oath taking ceremony of Character Building Society (CBS) of Institute of Zoology at the Zoological Museum, New Campus. On this occasion, Director Institute of Zoology Prof Dr Nabila Roohi, DSA Director Dr Shahzeb Khan, Coordinator of CBS-IOZ Dr Bushra Nisar Khan, faculty members a large number of students were present. In his address, PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said that education is not only about gaining knowledge but also about developing honesty, discipline, and a sense of responsibility. He believed such societies help students build leadership qualities, teamwork, and respect for others. He also guided young people away from negative influences by promoting positive activities like community service and ethical discussions. He said that strong character is the foundation of a successful life and a progressive society. Therefore, universities should actively support character-building societies to produce responsible and principled citizens, he added. The Vice Chancellor administered the oath to the newly inducted members, who solemnly pledged to uphold the rules, values, and principles of CBS and to work with full dedication toward promoting integrity and transparency. A poster competition was also organized as part of the event, providing students an excellent platform to showcase their creativity and ideas on important social and ethical topics. Winners of the competition were awarded prizes in recognition of their outstanding performance. Dr Nabila said that the character building society serves as a platform for students to develop strong moral values, leadership skills, and a commitment to a corruption-free society. She said that throughout the academic year, the society plans to organize various seminars, awareness campaigns, and community outreach programs. The Character Building Societies (CBS) initiative, launched annually by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) across educational institutions in Pakistan, aims to promote integrity and transparency, eradicate corruption, and empower youth through active citizenship and social responsibility.
